GAME CHANGER

One of the luxuries of modern technology is having access to the technical support team. However, it is aggravating when the only solution the expert proffers is something I have tried with no positive result. I called because I was expecting something geeky that would give me an ‘aha moment’, something that will fix the problem. I don’t want to do the same thing that I have tried – I’m expecting tech magic.

Obeying the instruction to try again changed Simon’s life forever.  Simon was an expert fisherman and a master of his craft; but he had toiled all night on the Sea of Galilee and caught nothing. As the light of morning dawned, he began to wash his net and tried to put the disappointment of the fruitless night behind him.

Nearby Jesus was teaching the word of God. The people pressed in to hear him and hedged him to the seashore. Jesus entered Simon’s boat and taught the multitude from there. After his teaching, he asked Peter to launch out into the deep waters for a catch.

There was no reason for Simon to obey that instruction, he had toiled all night in the same waters and caught nothing. The chance of catching fish in broad daylight was much lower – did Jesus know that? If Peter knew Benjamin Franklin, he could have answered with one of his quotes: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

But Simon answered and said to Jesus, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” Luke 5:5

In other words; just so you know, we are experienced fishermen and we have tried everything and caught no fish. But because you said so, I will try again.

Nothing in Simon’s experience prepared him for what happened next. He caught so much fish that the nets began to break. The same water, the same man, the same nets and different results – The Word of Jesus made the difference.

What would have happened if Peter refused to cast the nets into the sea again? What would happen if he allowed his experience to guide his decision and not the Word of Jesus? He would have missed out on a net-breaking harvest and the manifestation of the power of Jesus.

Dear friend, do not let your past experience guide your decision, listen for the Word of Jesus and simply obey His word. The same net that caught nothing all night will drag in an abundant harvest. The same business that is running at a loss can become a multimillion dollar venture. God is able to turn the place of pain into the place of joy.

A Word from God is all it takes to change your story.

Seek the face of God this week and revisit every place of impossibility with His word. Jesus is still the same today and He makes all things new.

Get ready for a net-breaking harvest!

  1. Thanks Jennifer.
Indeed our God is greater! His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
Obeying God puts us in a place of power and gives Him liberty to display His splendor through us.
