WHEAT IN THE WINEPRESS

I have always wondered if the saying, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going”, really means that “when the going gets tough, the tough put on a façade”. The truth is that we all need a boost when the going gets tough. It takes more than sheer determination – it takes a renewed focus.

When life gets tough, circumstances press in and threaten to drown out the truth of who you are. The truth is that God loves you and your current situation does not determine your future.

God has not changed His mind about you. He still loves you and He still has great plans for you. It does not matter how messed up things have become, there is still a way out and God’s heart yearns for you even more.

Gideon found himself stuck in a life that was far from the victorious dreams he had. Nothing in his life bore any semblance to the countless stories he heard about past victories. The best days seemed to be in the past; things were really tough to the extent that he had to thresh wheat in the winepress to hide the food from the enemy. He was in hiding, barely having enough, trying to make it through each day.

In the midst of the depravity, the angel of God appeared to Gideon and called him a mighty man of valor. He did not feel like a mighty man and he definitely did not look like one as he crouched in the pit trying to harvest food and stash it away from the enemy.

The truth is that your value does not fluctuate with circumstances. Your feelings might fluctuate but that does not change the truth. When the angel of God appeared to Gideon and said, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!” He was stating the truth.

However, the truth sounded so far-fetched to Gideon in the dire circumstances that he responded with a question: “O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us?” He did not believe that God was with him during the trials.

Perhaps you have the same question on your mind: “If God is with me, why has all this happened to me?” be encouraged – you are not alone. God is with you and He will bring you out! He is calling you to ARISE!

“Arise from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you—rise to a new life! Shine – be radiant with the glory of the Lord, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!” Isa 60:1

God is with you! His love is reaching out to you right now. Rise up with renewed strength and face your giants.

Gideon’s victory was guaranteed because God was with him and so is yours. You need to make a decision to arise and refuse to let circumstances keep you down. You will win because God is with you!
